Emerging Filmmaker Contest | GlobeDocs Film Festival 2025

The Boston Globe invites students and filmmakers under 25 years old to submit an original documentary short film to our emerging filmmakers contest. Winning selections will be screened during the 11th annual GlobeDocs Film Festival.

How it Works

- Create and submit an original documentary short film up to 10 minutes

- One chosen winner will be featured in our "Local Shorts" program during 2025 GlobeDocs Film Festival and receive a $500 prize

- Filmmakers will be included in a post-screening live Q&A led by a Globe reporter at the Brattle Theatre

- The winner will have their film promoted as a part of the full GlobeDocs Film Festival lineup

- Filmmakers will receive a VIP bag on-site and an invitation to the VIP party

- Winner will receive full access to the festival

- Winner will be announced in The Globe

GlobeDocs Film Festival

Produced by The Boston Globe, the GlobeDocs Film Festival celebrates documentary filmmaking and invites filmmakers, award-winning journalists, and special guests from around the globe to gather in Boston for this annual event.

The annual festival continues the tradition of highlighting important stories and recognizing Boston as a touchstone of the non-fiction film world. Festival programming foregrounds distinct perspectives, diverse communities and BIPOC voices, covering a wide range of topics including science and technology, public health, arts, LGBTQ+ issues, education, racial injustice, and politics.

‘EMERGING FILMMAKERS CONTEST'

18+. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter, submit an original DOCUMENTARY short film up to ten (10) minutes long to this webpage between May 1, 2025 at 12:00 AM and SEPTEMBER 5, 2025 at 11:59 PM. Participants must be between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty-five (25).
